The Joker

I saw a mentalist perform card tricks. He was fantastic! I recommend one if you have a party and want some great entertainment. Anyway, he did some tricks with a deck of cards.

Last night I woke in the middle of the night and could not fall asleep. It was so frustrating! But I got the idea for this post. 🙂

When we are born, are our lives predestined for us, or do we have a say in what happens? You know I’m a deep thinker, so stay with me here. Let’s say we’re born, and our life is a deck of cards that show our life laid out from birth till we are gone.

There are love cards, talent cards, belief cards, humility cards, kindness cards, and so on. They get shuffled around throughout our lives. Some get flipped over and bring happiness, while others flip, and we’re dealing with pain of some sort. It’s all in the card deck.

But what if, just like a real deck of cards, we use the Joker, the wildcard, and replace a lousy card we get and get to choose any card we want? Instead of being given a life of mediocre success, we use one of two Jokers in the deck and choose a life of enormous success. Now we have the freedom of choice with our deck of cards.

I’ve heard the expression, “The deck is stacked against you, ” and I never liked it. I heard it from a very negative person, and they were basically saying, don’t bother trying. You’ll fail. That’s an awful thing to say to someone! I believe we have so much power and ability to change any fate that was cast upon us at birth in our card deck or beyond our circumstances.

It doesn’t matter our genes, DNA, family experiences, or life experiences up till now. As adults, the only thing stopping us from attaining happiness is us. Truly. We’re not children that need to fear punishment or repercussions if we speak up, be assertive, and create healthy boundaries. Whatever actions we take, we choose that, not the queen of diamonds or the two of clubs. Just because those around us are suffering a quiet life does not mean we have to keep those cards. Discard them, grab your Joker, and create a better path.

The Joker represents freedom.

Freedom to think for ourselves and choose what is best for us. No one knows us better than ourselves, so we must believe we’re holding the cards that will set our life apart from any fate cast on us via family dysfunction or trauma. We can heal, but we have to believe we can.

Don’t let circumstances that either happened in the past or are happening right now stop you from grabbing that Joker, shoving it in your deck, and changing things around.

Get a real deck of cards and pull out the Joker card.

Keep it in your wallet or on your desk, nightstand, mirror, whatever, just a place where you see it. Each time you glance at it, remember who’s in charge of your life – you are! Seeing that visual reminder is powerful.

Thank you for reading this, and I hope I’ve given you something positive to think about. That’s what I’m here for.

To the Joker (and not the scary one from the Batman comic),
